The town of Jamestown is situated 205km north of Adelaide in the heart of South Australia’s prosperous Mid North farming region. It has a population of about 1,400 people and is administered by the Northern Areas Council.

Jamestown’s attractions include: the Belalie Creek, Belalie Art Gallery, Jamestown’s National Trust Museum, the Sir Hubert Wilkins Memorial, examples of turn-of-century’ historic buildings, street murals and various parks and gardens.

The town has a modern hospital with GP’s, dentists, hydrotherapy pool & gymnasium and physiotherapy services.

Events held at Jamestown include:

  • the Jamestown Races and Jamestown Show held on the October long weekend,
  • the Jamestown Fly In & Air Spectacular (held in October every 3 years – next event 2012),
  • the Bundaleer Weekend (held in March/April every 2 years – next event 2011)

Visitor facilities include: banking, chemist, bakery, take-away, petrol, motor repairs, supermarkets and EFTPOS.

Sporting facilities and clubs include: basketball, bowls, cricket, darts, football, golf, netball, pistol & rifle shooting, soccer, swimming and tennis (both lawn and hard court).

Service clubs include: Apex, Lions, Rotary, CWA, Soropotists and Probus.

The October long weekend is an important time for the people of Jamestown with two major events taking place: the annual race meeting on the Saturday and the Jamestown Show on the holiday Monday.

These two events give many former Jamestown residents the perfect excuse to return to Jamestown to re-visit family and friends and catch up with developments taking place in the district.
