Short Chronology
| 1875 | March 29 | Inaugural Jamestown race meeting conducted by the Jamestown Racing Club at a site about half a mile south west of the township and attended by 700 spectators. The first winner being Mr J Gleeson’s Ivanhoe. A second meeting was held the next day. |
| 1876 | April 17 | A second two day meeting was held in 1876. |
| 1878 | March 21 | A six event card was advertised for the third meeting of the Jamestown Racing Club |
| 1885 | Jan 28 | After a lapse of 7 years the Jamestown Racing Club reformed and a meeting programmed for July 24 (1885) |
| July 24 | First race meeting of the newly reformed Club held on a paddock loaned by Messrs Longmire and Shaw | |
| 1886 | April 8 | Race meeting held on the property of R Williams |
| 1887 | April 21 | Race meeting held on the property of R Williams with Richard Correll, Hon Secretary. 140pnds stake money. |
| 1888 | Jamestown Racing Club elapsed. No Meeting held. | |
| 1889 | Feb 8 | Jamestown Jockey Club formed with Dr Pentland as President, Mr RC Sandland Chairman and Mr SM Turner, Secretary. Race meeting held on the property of James Neale on 29 March. |

| 1891 | March 6 | Meeting held on Stakers paddock |

| 1895 | March 15 | Meeting held in the paddock of Mr H Day. |

| 1897 | March 18 | Racing at Jamestown has been conducted continously since 1897 (except for the war years) This year’s meeting was held on the property of Mr Seaman. |
| 1898 | April 20 | Meeting held at Canowie. |
| 1901 | Jan 1 | New Years Day meeting held in the “stubble paddock” |
| 1902 | Jan 1 | New Years Day race meeting held on Mr Seaman’s property |
| 1905 | March 5 | Club holds its first meeting on its own race course situated one mile south of the town (the present racecourse site). |
| 1910 | March 4 | Myrtle wins the Belalie Stakes for Jim Cummings and gives the Cummings’ family their first race win at a registered race meeting in Australia. 40 years later Jim Cummings trains Comic Court to win the Melbourne Cup and in 1965 Jim’s son Bart Cummings trains the first of his 12 Melbourne Cup victories with Light Fingers. |
